You're My Superpower

You’re hidden inside of me

You are the ice of my veins

You’re the secret in my heart

You flow to my brain

Pulling my oxygen from me, you make me blue

Making me cooler and crueler than flaming ice

Don’t you know, you’re my greatest virtue

You’re my prized, villainous, beloved, benevolent vice

If only I knew who to thank

If only I knew who to praise

If only I knew, I would ask them to stay

Have a cup of coffee, and never take my power away

Written on my adolescence, youth, age

To be, you’ve been, you are

The blood in my heart, beating for me, all the way

Making me feel like stars aren’t too far

You’re my superpower

The darkness of their pits where the monsters lay

You’re the light in my finest hour

Oh power, don’t lead me astray

You allow me to see what turns down his smile

You let me see what makes her hair grey

I understand what makes them red like the Nile

I see him sitting in the aisle, his fears, his trialsome days

Sitting alongside him, his hurt and dismay

What makes them tremble like Mary in the month of May

I’m able to help him chase the sun

Or, I can make the gold on their skin fade

Oh, spirit, thanks for being you

Oh, humanity, don’t fall off like rain

Oh compassion, I believe praise is due

Oh supernatural power, make right my way

Don’t go away

This poem is about my superpower to see people's suffering. I think everyone has and needs this superpower. I write about my superpower like I'm writing a love letter to a loved one. I want to thank humanity's capacity for compassion because the earth needs this superpower to make the world a better place.
