you're the perfect girl to write songs about and i've got enough time on my hands to try and get it right

she's a pretty little girl with

a ring on each finger

she cut her hair so short like

the girl in the picture

she's running around being

her own brown-eyed-girl

in a new skirt each day and

swinging her pearls

she's my yellow buttercup and

she smiles with her eyes

she's got me belly up but

she's not ready to be mine

she's as pretty as any daisy

that'll be placed on my grave

she's brighter than any sign

oh

my little neon babe

she's a whisper if it came alive

too quiet for what it holds but

it can't be any louder cuz

only the lucky get to know

whenever you think of her

her favorite song it plays and

she's stuck in my head in

much the same way

she's my yellow buttercup and

she smiles with her eyes

she's got me belly up but

she's not ready to be mine

she's as pretty as any daisy

that'll be placed on my grave

she's brighter than any sign

oh

my little neon babe

if she ever doubts herself and

if she ever wonders why

she feels a little different

can't tell just what is right

i hope that she remembers

these words that i write

and go for anybody

she's hers before she's mine
