You've been lied to about Poems

You've been lied to about poems

You've been told their reflections of life

But they are more than just that

They are exaggerations, exemplifications

They are what we see and allow others to see

They are our own creations from our unique imaginations

Through nothing more than words we create our world

Atmospheres, feelings, and emotional tugs

All immune to the naked eye's and ears of outsiders

Only through our poems may you peer into our world

The world of a poet

So the next time you hear someone say

That poems are simply reflections of life

Enlighten them and explain it is so much more
