Some see a sweet , smart , hard working girl and others see a girl
with no dreams and who will become a young pregnat teen.
I see a beautiful , smart dark brown girl, who will make an empact in

I am the girl. The one you
stare at as I hold my lover.
her hand, your stares
your hate, my fear
I am the girl. The one you,
my selfproclaimed friend,
wince away from when
As an infant, their eyes are filled with happiness
their head is filled with innocence
their heart is filled with gold.
As a toddler, their eyes are filled with curiosity
their head is filled with imagination
I believe that this country is at war
Our children soldiers
Fighting on the frontlines
Since Junior High
While the students
Are taking bullets
These so called activists
Colors changing all around me and yet I'm still the same

The color of your skin does not matter.
The language you speak does not matter.
Very tired of not being heard,
Or being heard but always being misunderstood.
Is the world just cruel or do I need to be more confident;
It’s hard trying to protect a cityThat doesn’t want your helpTheir trust and respect had diedWith the unarmed menWho wore the same uniform as I am
You are an animal.
But I’m not one too.

Why aren’t you scared?
Why aren’t you threatened?
The government put the authority in their hands
We of African-descent don't stand a chance
