Fear of heights

I stared below at the thousands of trees
That were so small they looked like broccoli
I stumbled ahead while my knees shook heavily
As if laughing at my attempted bravery
At First But Then
At first sight, I looked at her and I thought to myself was it safe
At first glance, even her name, Verbolten, said don't touch
I am terrified of heights.
Not sure how it started,
But whenever I reach
A certain threshold,
I see myself tumbling over the edge
For so long I feared great heights.
The long drop down chilled my bones.
The fear of falling caused my muscles to freeze,
and I was as a deer in headlights,
unable to comprehend, to react, to even move.
