“Because”

The food in my kitchen is
already rotten and I only bought
it three days ago, the bugs on my
ceiling have stopped flying, I think
that they're dying, there's dead skin
in my sink, pealed off from my
feet, placed next to the remainder
of a fingernail that won't stop
growing, dead like a bone,
the girl I watched on TV is
already a teen, and there's
something in the mirror that
won't stop bothering me, I just
don't look the same, the smile
has faded, the eyes are crazed
and I miss them . . . the shadows.
