My dreams trail behind me
Like a broken vase
Once they were beautiful
But now there’s no trace
Of what beauty they portrayed
Of how sweet we could be
Of a life with you by my side
Without any misery
It wouldn’t even be hard
It would all come naturally
Two people become one
It would happen effortlessly
But instead more days pass on
And I begin to drift away
I ask what happened between us
But you have nothing to say
You made me feel so special
Like I truly mattered
Then you hid inside my shadow
And made sure my heart was shattered
Haggard days and sleepless nights
Filled with tears tinged black
I wipe away the briny waves
But they just keep coming back
There’s no way for me to control
My oppressive emotions
The dark, dreary, all-consuming
Threat of depression
It lurks in my closet
And hides under my bed
Waiting for a chance
To show its hideous head
I try to fend it off
But it just keeps coming back
I can’t help but miss him
And wish I was back on track
I feel like a horrible person
For jealousy of my best friend
But a guy who flirts with two girls
Is definitely not a Godsend
I wish I was stronger
I wish I was prettier
I wish I was skinnier
I wish I was smarter
This list could go on forever
So there are only a few
Of my many insecurities
That explain what I do
I miss being the one he calls
The one who’s not alone
I want to be the one who’s loved
But being lost is all I’ve ever known
There is no end of what’s begun
For loneliness is forever
But a single person can right the future
And make sure all ties are severed
