Take a shot for me,

Take a shot for my sobriety

Because the drugs

Never stop controlling me

They linger in my soul

In my mind

In my body

It hurts when I use

It hurts when I don't

I'm paralyzed with the thought

Of getting high

And being sober

The voices tell me to hit it

Snort that line

Take those shots

Fill the void they scream

In my head so loud

I feel lost in the noise

Strangled by my need

Throttled by my want

Crippled by the pain

Most don't understand

This illness I have

They tell me

It's a phase-

It'll pass

You're young

Just don't use

How can you explain to

Someone

The taste of salt

If they've never tasted it.
