#1. ODE TO MARCEL

The mission calls from the void.
Vibrates and resounds in empty space.
Strong. Insisting. Constant:
”You are needed. There is something, you’ve got to do.”
My senses stretch to the extreme.
I search the farthest corners of the universe sky.
And I trawl the most desolate and secluded territories of my mind.
No decisive breakthrough.
Promising findings are being investigated and verified.
Occupy my thoughts and my hopes for a while.
But they fail, though I try to revitalize and double-check.
And finally I have to archive them with the stamp
”Not valid missions”.
Then suddenly a thought flashes:
”Is there a mission after all?
Is there anything but brain spin?
The result of unmet needs? Lack of recognition?
Or lack of meaning with a poor life?
Or is it panic, announcing its arrival ... now ...
only a few blinks before closing time?”
I make a decision: ”Who cares? There is a mission!
There is a mission as long as I can bear to search for it.
Goddamit!”
And then in a flash of light. In a split second the thought is born!
”My dearest Marcel. Your mission is up and running.
It races forward at the only speed the universe accepts:
The speed of light!”
”Every single thought. Every single word.
Every single one of your actions
are fully integrated and indispensable parts of the mission.”
”You influence everyone you meet. And everything around you.
Without you, the world would be different.”
And you hear this thought of life whisper to you:
”It is important that you are here. It fills us with joy.”
And all of a sudden, life became a little easier :-)
