10 to 12

The world spins constantly

It never really stops

We're always moving

spinning like a top.

My family gathers around

on December 31st 2013 it's 11:50

Close your eyes, they say

It's ten to twelve make your wishes

My eyes shut tight.

It's 11:52

I start to list my desires,

but then I think of you.

I want to change the world.

It's 11:53

I find a way to make it complete.

I say "I wish for kindness to spread through the land"

It's 11:54

my mom takes my hand.

She says, "I wish for love for all of the children"

It's 11:55

I feel something beginning.

My cousin says "I wish for people to see eachother as friends"

It's 11:56

My dad smiles and says,

"I wish for everyone to hang on to hope"

It's 11:57

and my uncle raises a toast

"I pray for the people who think they cant cope"

It's 11:58

My aunt begins to shed tears

"I hope everyone remembers they're not controlled by fear"

It's 11:59

look how far we've come

My nine year old sister sings a song

"A cup of kindness"  The family shouts.

As my cousins come together

and we hear the bells

Twelve chimes for the new year

It's twelve O' Clock

While we wished for others

the world never stopped.

It just kept spinning.

As we will too.

It's 1:00 in the morning

and I'm drifting to sleep

But I remember the promises we made

in the last 10 minutes

of 2013

And I'm hoping

Im praying

as tears slide down my face

That as we eight,

the eight members of my family,

Shared our hopes

we planned

we dreamed

we wanted to change the world
