being alone

has made me realize

how hard it is

to live without you.

i was fine at first.

i could eat

and sleep.

but then, it happened.

i realized something

that i never had before.

i missed your laugh,

your smile, your hands.

i missed the way

you’d look at me

and make me feel

like the only person in the world.

i missed our long talks,

our arguments, our jokes.

i missed you

holding me,

telling me

it would be alright

because you truly felt

that it would be.

and without a doubt,

i would believe you.

in those moments,

i thought that nothing

could ever bring me down.

because i’d never felt

more protected

or more loved

than i did

while in your arms.

it’s ironic how the things

we feel most protected by

can be exactly what

will tear us to bits

and rip the happiness

right out of our lives.

and even though you left me

with tear-stained clothes

and a heart stained with pain,

i missed your everything.

you were all i thought about.

day and night,

night and day.

i loved you…

too much.
