11 September 2001

we suddenly found ourselves looking up. soggy, foggy minds couldn’t make sense of the world, because the world was a flaming, puffing, smokefest, and the chaos was thick and wet and swampy. and loud. we suddenly felt the gut-deep hollow of too many unchangeable things, pressed our hands against our heads, and waited for the bellowing collapse to cease. we suddenly found ourselves looking down. retching, reeling hearts couldn’t make sense of the dust, because the dust was a mocking, senseless tombstone, and the air was dry and choking and empty. and mute. we suddenly felt the gut-deep hollow of too many unchangeable things, pressed our hands against our heads, and waited for the ashen world to start again.
