Born in early morning Your dark eyes open wide; Eyes that cannot see – Baby Brother, stay close to me. You will never speak; Tuberous Sclerosis, they call it Before birth, your tumors grew – Baby Brother, I will protect you. We cry for joy, At last! Your first steps. In the morning sun you stand – Baby Brother, I’ll hold your hand. The summer heat burdens; You love the cool water – The cruel water steals you away; I come too late to save the day. Thirteen years later, now I know your life was a gift: My love for you is one that grew – David, I teach in memory of you.
