The chorus of apologies

that accompany your drunk call

Asking for my forgiveness

no matter how many times

I say it’s alright

You know it isn’t

But I can’t hang up on you and

The honesty

that spills out into your tone

Alcohol lengthening your words

Cigarettes burning to the filter

Singing your fingertips

too numbed to notice

As you tell me about the sky

above you, the power lines

the moon, traffic sounds from Battlefield

The story behind Bongo’s pizza

Okay, okay, okay, okay

Concrete pathway to guide you back inside

An I love you

as I pull the phone away
