13 ways to look at an evergreen tree

I

from a root, a trunk

from a trunk, a thousand branches

from a thousand branches, a thousand more

from a thousand more branches, a million pines

of a root, a tree

II

a home for a family of squirrels

it keeps them warm over winter

shelter

III

one of many types of trees in a snowy field

perhaps the most important one of all

IV

a symbol of nature

one tree

one symbol

V

merely a tree

what about it?

VI

just another thing for humans to destroy

a waste

a beautiful thing

cut down for show

VII

christmas is coming

oh, yay

VIII

christmas is coming

oh, no

IX

a symbol of christmas

one tree

one symbol

X

something to hang things on:

an ornament

a star

XI

the heart of ones living room

only for a  few months

XII

the thing one can look forward to;

decorating the christmas tree

XIII

from no more pines, a thousand falling branches

from a thousand falling branches, a thousand falling more

from a thousand falling branches, a thin, dry trunk

from a thin, dry trunk, dead roots

of dead roots, dead tree
