This is 16.

Sixteen is going through tremendous hardships, such as trying to succeed in high school while it becomes more difficult as the years pass. You learn more about who you want to be and what people perceive of you. Sixteen is leaving your middle school mindset behind and exploring new possibilities in high school.

Sixteen is the year you have to find your way. Juggling between being a African American that doesn't meet the white privilege and missing opportunities because of the color of my skin. Not fitting into how society wants me to be and make a version of me that isn't just kind, but successful.

Sixteen is when your emotions are something to try to contain. The things of your past no longer seem big but the things of the future are what haunts you.

Sixteen is not too late to break powerful stigmas or stereotypes. 

Sixteen is fighting through oppression and powerful stigmas that’s just about everyone who surrounds you believes. Fighting stigmas could be tremulous, but at the end you realize you have accomplished something important and meaningful.

Sixteen is the time you realize stereotypes don’t last forever, some people will be prejudice and not realize but you need to make sure that you help those people understand that certain stigmas are wrong. If a person of a different color or religion walks by look them in the eye and smile, Showing kindness is a thing that will get you far in life.

Sixteen  is going out with friends to the mall to enjoy life to the fullest. This definitely is the mark of my 9th grade year, and I will make it count in the ways I want it to.

Sixteen is when you start to realize bullies are just ignorant people who don’t know and don’t care about what is going on within your family or life. They just use your weaknesses to build their own self esteem. Sixteen is gaining confidence to stand up for yourself and don’t allow those bullies to generalize you.

Sixteen is the age where kids try drugs for the first time just to fit into the “cool kids” also known as stoners. During this time many teenagers become more gullible and that gives a chance for the upperclassmen to take advantage of the 9th graders.

Sixteen is the year of happiness. Sixteen is full of hope and setting goals, and later on achieving them. Sixteen is the time for you to plant your seed of hope and later enjoy the fruit it produces.

Sixteen is cherishing the time with your family, such as watching movies and having quality time together as a close family should have. Times like these are when you notice your love for your family is interminable.
