18 Years Old

Instead of looking back, I know I must look forward.

Instead of holding on, I know I should let go.

They all say, “Adulting is hard”

And I think they are right.

Out of anyone, the adults would know.

I would rather stay like this:

Young, free, and bright.

But I don’t think turning 18 takes that out of life.

Being scared can’t make the time move slower,

And being brave won’t make it faster.

All I need to do is set expectations a little lower.

I’m here to live,

Not get first place.
