1963
my guardian angel
is skin and bones
thin and weary
but so clearly
i can see
us dancing in the stove light
twirling you around
you stepping on my toes
hushed laughter at 3am
not wanting to wake the kids up
we’re 30 and everything is finally
feeling alright
we go to sleep
you hold me back
and hold me tight
mornings feel like summer
cold coffee and frayed newspapers
two broken people
with broken dreams
finally
becoming
Whole.
