1st Grade

It wasn’t until 1st grade,

until I realized I had to grow up,

though I would still be young,

I would have to step up,

One Sunday afternoon,

while sitting on the patio,

we found out,

that my mom had cancer,

Those words made me freeze,

they hurt my heart,

but than I knew,

I had to become strong,

I was still a kid,

but had to become more mature,

to stay strong,

and help support my mom during this difficult time,

After months of support and treatment,

my mom had overcome cancer,

I was so happy and relieved,

and was very thankful

This experience made me stronger,

made me realize family is most important,

and made me appreciate every second,

because you never know how much time you have.
