Playing ball with my friends on 5th street Four to two the score card reads Out and about, it’s a pretty day Winning the game, I’m floating on trees The clouds turn gray, the victory’s cut short The trains screech and groan on their tracks Except there are no train tracks where I play We look in the sky to find a tunnel at its max Running and running towards home and shelter Almost there, when the roof is blown away One by one they follow each other Panicked and frightened, we run every which way Power lines fall and hit the trees We see the tunnel destroying from afar Turning left with nowhere else to go A tree falls up ahead, crushing a car So many things are gone and distinguished Where we lived, no longer exists Our town and lives are no longer alive Everything we knew, all of it dismissed Rounding the corner is what we feared most We see the lightning crackle, and then fired The nearest house, by my neighboring friend Crying hard when I see his life expired
