2012: A Year of History

My child

Today is a new day

Beyond belief, today is a new day

You, my child, are grateful enough to be a part of it

Not only is today new and curious,

But, my child, the rest of your life will be

You were born on a day of Dec. 31, 2012

A special day indeed

My child, today you have been blessed with life

Along with the world surrounding us

My child, love this life

For the year you were born was a year of inspiration

And history has only followed

The people of faces that will never be forgotten

Stories of lives that will remain unchanged

The first to walk on the moon,

The most awarded female in music,

And scientific-fiction beyond the eye itself

Neil Armstrong, Whitney Houston, Ray Bradbury

My child, later on in your life

Names such as these will be remembered as

Achievable

Amazing talent

And creativity

Death will always be common, my child

As you well know

But it is the stories leading,

That constructs memories and history

2012 taught us this

My child, rulers of the world will be continued forever

And this past year,

November 6th, 2012

A 44th ruler was elected

A name of Obama,

A first African American in presidency

His second term shall follow in 2013

Debt, depression, and unemployment

Words describing his past four years

$1.3 trillion in the hole

But still hope lingers on

As you, my child, will create better

And build a foundation to this crumbling empire

 Nature is beautiful chaos

As you will soon learn, my child

With storms such as Sandy and Isaac,

6.5 million homes demolished

Destroyers of life

But heavy in relief

Devastating millions

But, my child, you will bring salvation

You will be the caregiver of our future

This summer the Olympics occurred

Hosted by the beautiful London, England

And a swimmer of gold appeared

Michael Phelps

A name, my child, which is forever stamped down in history

A grand total of 22 metals,

18 of them a shimmering gold

Perfection is impossible,

But through this challenge in life

This man has stood tall at great heights

My child, you will bring new tasks to conquer though

This world is yours to accomplish

You, my child, are the New Year

You, my angel, are the resolution

You, my darling, are everyone’s child

For you are 2013,

You are our future

Let us baby you and protect you,

Let us take risks with you and fail miserably,

But let us remember your birthplace

And the beginning of your creation

As you are as much of a future as you are a past.
