2025: Please Be Better

2025

It’s nearly midnight in New Orleans

Drinks are guzzled, spirits high

Fireworks crackle, laughter echoes

Yet something sinister lurks in the shadows

For on new year's day in 2025

A tragic event would arise

One that some would not survive

Why, why, why, I just don’t know

Brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers,

Sons, and daughters

Innocent lives that deserve better

My fists clenched, my cheeks couldn’t get hotter

Growing angry as I think of the lives lost that day

Wishing I could have helped those in need

What an awful start to 2025

A crime that I would never forgive

We must hope for better

For the sake of our nation

For the sake of the world

2025 must turn around swiftly

I dream of peace in the midst of war

I dream of unity in the midst of division

I dream of kindness in times of hatred

Why can’t we just work together, in this world God created
