11/28/10

It’s your twenty-first.
In my mind, I always dreaded this day because I always knew what it meant.

And now what I dread the most is knowing that I can’t pick up the phone and say hello.

To wish you well, and hope for many more.

It’s over and you’re gone.
That’s the only thing I dread at all.

I remember this day last year, in that same familiar parking lot that I actually visited today with another.

I purchased materials for you, anxious for you to see them.

I imagined in my mind each day your reaction.

I wanted so much for you, but I feel I gave you nothing at all.

For if I did, maybe things would have been different.

Maybe you wouldn’t have destroyed the seed that I tried so hard to sow.

Alas, that day is gone and it is one year later.

It is your twenty-first and I wish I were there to hope for many more.
