29 Miles To Go

It's six degrees outside and my car is totalled.

I need to drive more carefully I've been told.

It's 29 miles to traffic court,

Oh god I don't even want to look at my credit report.

I have to pay the ticket,

It's the price I pay.

It's the only thing that will make me free to walk away.

The air hits me like a colliding semi,

Air flooding through like a broken levy.

28 more miles to go.

28 more miles with the possibility of snow.

Atlanta is never this cold,

But neither is the south.

This polar vortex has sucked the air out of everyone's mouth.

27 more miles before warmth,

27 more miles to the judge hears my voice.

The cold is bitter.

My body is stiffer than a television transmitter.

26 more miles before the money leaves my pocket,

My sweat is turning into a solid.

25 more miles until I'm out of this disgrace,

The judge will probably laugh in my face,

Boy you came all the way here to plead your case?

24 more miles until I make my choice.

23 more miles before I can feel again,

22 more miles then I can release the pain.

21 more miles left and all I can think about is my accident.

Kicking myself and feeling inadequate.

The cold feels like the devil's advocate.

I guess this is the price you pay for an accident.
