(3 of 3) Penance is not Repentance
I bargained with the devil when I was just thirteen
I asked him for a blessing
I asked to fuel a dream
I bartered very little for I had nothing to claim
I thought it’d give me power
I thought it’d make me sane
I lied my way through junior high and freshman year alone
Others didn’t seem to care
Others didn’t seem to know
I figured my ability was what I had to use for gain
Others would obey my voice
Others saw me to blame
I graduated high school and left to serve the Lord
He let me go unwittingly
He let me break my word
I served and screamed in agony but somehow scraped on by
He had a tall price for me to pay
He wouldn’t stand for all my lies
I heard the news and fought the tears yet cried on anyway
I forgot and kept on serving
Others forgot along the way
I made a name and fought for fame and my destiny to control
He smiled and made it easy
I left Hell, yet paid no toll
