300m of Hurdles
Focus.
I stand at the start waiting for my mark.
I tense up more and more every second that goes by.
Control.
My heart beats a million miles a minute;
I feel it's going to explode from my chest.
Breathe.
I hear the mark and go down, set, I get into my position.
I feel my heartbeat in my head, the pounding giving me a rhythm to run to.
All out.
I hear the gun and push out from the blocks.
I push my foot into the ground to propel me forward.
Concentrate.
I attack the hurdles one at a time; always looking forward never down.
The next hurdle is all I think about.
Flight.
Over and over and over I glide over the hurdles.
I feel invincible; like nothing could ever stop me.
Exhaustion.
I have only a little left; I covered lots of ground.
I feel my legs cramp and tighten every step I take.
Determination.
Those last few meters. I cannot, will not let down.
No, I will not slow. No, I will not falter.
Desire.
I sprint with all that I have left.
The finish line just beyond my reach, just a few more steps.
Passion
Again and again I will race.
Even when victorious, I will train harder.
Even when failure occurs, I will push through.
To feel the rush of:
Focus.
Control.
Breathe.
All out.
Concentration.
Flight.
Exhaustion.
Determination.
Desire.
Passion.
300m of Hurdles: What I live for.
