36 inches

I measure my time on this train ride. I think on it, lying in its prickly embrace I think about how slow it moves, and how fast it runs out Like the whole world was meant to be engulfed in flames since the beginning, and everything was set to an invisible timer Out, was what I wanted, but In was what I had I couldn’t understand where I was headed I didn’t know if I would get there Or if they were forcing me, go to another place I was scared, scared that if I stayed I would lose what I gained. That inch, that little inch of everything that was mine. My inch, to hold and cherish and divide Using the two feet I was blessed with My 36 inches to take me wherever I wished to go And hope and pray my inch would set me over Just enough, so that my ink stained fingertips could brush the hand of God.
