38 Riverside Drive

It wasn't a house, it was a home It was where I would always roam It was where I watched, learned and grew It's where there was never anything different or new This was a place where life did thrive This was 38 Riverside Drive I remember so well, us and she We were the ideal family Every holiday and gathering we were there Making the memories that only we now share I remember the days when she was here I would go to her, hugs and kisses, never a tear She loved us and we loved her How the years went by in a blur It hurts to recall her last day inside That wonderful 38 Riverside Drive I knew it was the end because hospos was there But I had to fix her puffy hair As I picked through it I began to cry Knowing this was the last real day at 38 Riverside Drive An hour later they took her away Then we struggled to finish out our last day The next months were hard when we had to divide That old house in pieces of five We took what we could and got rid of the rest It was a hard time not the worst not the best Yes we were together of course But without her presence it felt a lot worse Then it came time to sell and say goodbye To the beloved 38 Riverside Drive Our last night there we sat on the floor Of the shell of a home we all did adore We left a note to the new family moving in We walked out, that's where the tears would begin As we all watched as the garage door shut It was all over it was so abrupt We all held on to each other We all cried through the pain Of knowing things would never be the same And time did march on Days to weeks to months and so on As I occasionally go by this former home My mind says it's gone and to leave it alone But my eyes they do not believe The blue and stone house is all they can see The house looks the same they try to point out Her curtains are still up and there are no strangers about My mind tries to argue, it can't though It can only visualize her waving out the window I want to drive up knock and see I expect a miracle, can it be Countless memories fill my head Then I remember the truth instead I simply look ahead and sigh Goodbye 38 Riverside Drive
