nobody on record ever tripped and fell into the san andreas
fault
something’s coming, something big but
you wouldn’t know from looking
it’s not one of those obvious, textbook things
it’s not a hundred thousand dead in indonesia
it’s not a tsunami half the world away
it’s real nonetheless, and way too close to home
if we sent ourselves there to lie above the dragon’s mouth
how can we act surprised when we’re burned
or eaten
destroyed
nobody on record ever tripped and fell into them
selves
and something’s coming, something big but
it looks just the same as always
it’s not like you can check boxes and get medicated
it’s not those people who can’t get out of bed
or those that are addicted to something physical
but it’s real nonetheless, and in your home
if i sent myself into the dragon’s den
and came out a martyr
who is there left to blame but myself
if nobody even wants a martyr
and who is there to blame when i am burned out
and beaten
destroyed
