The 5 Senses

Trying to shut out the world, I cover my ears hoping not to hear the whispers, or the rumors of what was, or what is. I cover my eyes hoping not to see the stares, or the people pointing at me, as they would the main attraction of the circus. I can even smell the sourness of the looks, as if lemons were under my nose. I can taste the bitterness of the words, as if they were sour cherries in my mouth. I can feel them pulling at me as if I'm the rope for tug-of-war. I feel as if I can't take anymore. I feel this tightness come across my chest, like a sign of cardiac arrest. How did I even get into this mess?
