5 Word Forecast

Hey Met Man! You don’t need a fancy degree,

To spout what you spout every night on TV.

Why spend years at your Uni learning to speak,

Weatherman waffle and Gobbildy Greek?

It’s all just a ruse, a great fictional tale,

With fantasy words like force 9 Beaufort scale,

Anomaly, millibar, unstable air,

Katabatic, occluded. Oh I despair.

El Nino, advection, chinook or synopsis,

Or Altocumulus lenticularis.

Isobar, jet stream, inversion and squall.

I’ve checked them on Google. They mean nothing at all.

All that’s important is the clouds for the day.

Are they light, are they dark, or medium grey?

You can spilt them in 2, by their size, namely these,

L W F Os and B B R Bs.

The ones that we like, when the wind doesn’t blow,

Are what you should call L-W-F-Os.

They are small, bright and lovely and blaze in the sun.

An apposite name ‘Little White Fluffy Ones’.

The B-B-R-Bs are the large scary clouds,

That makes us all wet and can be really loud.

Just like Babe Ruth they’re a bit of a slugger.

B-B-R-B is ‘Big Black Rainy Bugger’.

I yearn for a forecast not wordy or long.

The more that you say, means the more you are wrong.

Distil it right down to the simplest yet.

“White clouds. You’ll see sun”, or “They’re black. You’ll get wet”.
