5 Years Later
I believe I am strong
Perhaps, I was before we met.
You tear me down and criticize me
Break me apart by every muscle
Is it because you love me?
You question my loyalty
And test my strength
Yet, here I am.
Do you do all of this
Because you love me?
You shout and scream while my back is turned
But only speak of praise when my face is clear
Is it because you want to make up for yourself?
Or is it… because you love me?
I try my hardest and fight every day
Against temptations and wants
I realize my needs and long for what you bring me
For I know our time is limited.
I stay truthful and compassionate
Changing my schedule to wrap around yours,
And I never forget what you need.
I put you before me
Even in sickness and sorrow,
Though I do not receive the same from you,
I do it still.
My friends ask me why,
My parents will never understand,
But I will.
It’s because I love you.
5 years later, we meet again.
I bring up how much I love you,
And you bring up how much you wish you showed me you loved me.
The relationship begins to spark up again,
And I know we are meant to be.
You give me constructive criticism,
And make sure I am okay.
You never question me,
And you praise me unconditionally.
You have nothing but kindness inside and out,
And I feel appreciated like never before.
Not only because I love you,
Because you love me too.
