63 Miles

It's quite- everyone is still sleeping,

even the sun has yet to rise.

We're both still tired and

we say nothing as the car carries us

Miles from home.

He reaches his hand over and

takes ahold of mine,

I look over at him, and I

Smile adoringly.

The road fills with cars as

the sun fills the sky.

We've driven this path so often.

I know all the curves of the road

just like I know the curves of his mouth.

I could trace this path on the back of my hand,

If he wasn’t still grasping it and

tracing his own fingers against my wrist.

When I close my eyes, I can see the

trees and water that follow us home,

next to them I see the tilt of his own eyes.

It's all ingrained in the back of my mind.

It begins to fade though, with each passing day.

Until we make the journey again.
