8 Years Later

Dear Auntie Moni,

I hope life is treating you well.

8 years later, I hope you are happy as hell.

I wish you the best, but I have to get this off my chest

I will never know why I was abandoned

A little girl crying feeling like she wasn't worth it

What did I do wrong?

At the age of 10, my heart caved in.

It was very hollow, filled with much sorrow

I cried myself to sleep thinking I was an issue

My eyes do not light up with happiness

It lights up with sadness

8 years later

Our relationship may never be the same

But who's really to blame?

The little girl with tears or the adult with love surrounding her?

I'm sure your life wasn't very fair but do you even care?

Did you ever think of me?

Did I ever cross your mind?

8 years later

I just wish I knew why the bond we had was tarnished

Our relationship is hanging onto a thread

The quilt of love and laughter unraveled

The memories are nonexistent

The bond is diminished

I wish things were still the same

8 years later

I don't look at you the same

I wish you could give me another chance

Before another

8 years later.

Best Wishes,

Your niece
