I keep staring at this face
This body
This mess up- screwup
with the wrong hair cut
and ugly tip of nose
top of the cascade of uneven curls
that don’t quite fit
into any shape
just like the shape of my
legs
lips
teeth
don’t quite meet
and that bothers me
to no end until I close my eyes
but it doesn’t stop there
I see it in my mind
My body I can feel it
but it’s not mine
cause when I see it
I cry and cry and cry
But it doesn't stop there
Would she cry too?
If she could see me now
Would she cry too?
I remember seeing all the pretty girls
when I was young
Seeing their beauty the way it swirls
Seeing her beauty the way it
Twirled into my mind as a reminder
I must remember to find her
In myself when I’m older
But do I?
It's not my fault I know
I'm trapped in a world that doesn't allow growth
I see it every day in my phone
Another surface reflected at me
The light melding my face into their own
Except I don't change
But they do
Always change into something better
Ugly unknown
Isn't it crazy?
Isn't it insane?
Look at the way their face is sewn!
Wait, I’m not mad at them!
I want to be them!
Isn't it crazy?
Isn't it insane?
I feel pressured by these magicians
But it's not just me
Every single girl today weeps
These pressures forces us as beauticians
Of shame
Of guilt
Into what we should be
At this time
I am trapped in a world
(I want to be free)
where comparison is necessary
(I want to be free)
to be pretty
So I ask, only because I cannot
and
Must not believe it myself
But am I pretty?
