A Finger Traces
A Finger traces the names
Engraven upon the stone
A friend, a brother, a memory
The finger traces again
A scream breaks silence
The soldier starts upright
Standing on the path
Two school children tumble by
A gaggle of students follows, then a teacher
She glances towards him, him with muddy knees
“You know how it is, kids these days,
Hard to control”. And they move onward
Screams continue, echoing
Veterans start, before glancing
Kneeling again in used uniforms
And fingers, trace again.
