A little poem I wrote about love

Roses are red but violets are blue… I don’t know how it happened, but suddenly, all the poems and songs became about you. Why is it that only your eyes are capable of subduing my mind completely and totally? So much so that hopefully, one day, those eyes so true, will gaze upon me with the same hue that makes roses red and violets blue. Movies and books talk of love so grandiose and difficult. But mine is simple. If I stare long enough. Observe closely. I can see that when you smile you have a little dimple. It’s these little things that are enough. Yes, love is tough. Yes, this journey has been rough. Yes, I’ve admittedly been going through some stuff. Yes, I should’ve given up. All of this is true…but. But. That is the difference That is what sets my love apart from the rest. I am persistent. In spite of the confession, rejection, self reflection, new directions, and many misconceptions, I still like you. The exception is that I will always have a “But” to come back to. Because truthfully, I couldn’t write enough poems. I couldn’t sing enough songs. I couldn’t tell enough stories to explain the way I feel about you. These emotions are worth the pursuit, you are worth the pursuit. It’s like when you see them. The whole world disappears. How is it that someone you don’t even know can make time itself seem slow. A millisecond of your gaze can make my heart stop, mind go blank, heart race, and send a million thoughts through my brain. All at the same time. It’s like you’ve corrupted my mind. When you are near I can’t see. I can’t breathe. I can’t do anything but look at you. Think about you. Hope, pray, that maybe one day you will think of me too. I don’t require anything from you in return because I would burn a thousand times more just to relive the first time you made my heart quicken. I was stricken. You put me out of commission and yet somehow I am still living and breathing with this strange new heart condition. The one that only acts up when you get caught in my vision. Who knew eyes could do that. Because my heart didn’t just skip a beat. It skipped a year. With you, even a mere thought can make my mind shatter. It’s a crime. Night by night and day by day you are the thought that my mind can’t escape. Why is it that only you can put me in this state? Because I’ve realized, there will always be another stanza. Another chapter. Another line. Another indication that I burn and I pine, For my love will never perish. You are my first high school crush, and that I will always cherish. I'll take this time to close my poem that ever grows because honestly I could’ve wrote more but I chose to ignore my full potential. This story is better unfinished. I don’t know where to go from here. In all honesty I have no clue. So, with roses so red and violets so blue, tell me, why can’t I stop writing- About you?
