Abandoned

Full of laughter,

Feet pounding on the strong floors.

Climbing the tree,

With the spindly old branches.

Going on rides around the field,

They did all these things.

I watched and watched,

As they grew older and older.

Going on less rides,

Never climbing the tree.

They left one by one,

Until there was no one left.

I waiting for them in silence,

As dust gathered the shelves.

Things broke,

But were never fixed.

Things got dirty,

But were never cleaned.

I continued waiting.

The axle is broken,

The wheels rusted.

The field is overgrown,

Too tall for rides.

I continued waiting.

I have waited for years,

And years to come.

The once strong floors,

Creak with every wind.

The once clean windows,

Are shattered and dirty.

But I will always be waiting.
