Abel

Day in and day out

He wakes and wanders

No one but him knows his route

I watch where he goes when no one else does

He wanders and wakes the earth before it’s ready

He’s a worker bee, down to the buzz

How can someone do this for so long?

I wonder to myself, he must have a secret weapon

But ask him and he would say I’m wrong

Armed with nothing but faith

He goes out to support his kids

And will continue to do so past the warning of a wraith

He’s read stories of deserts and danger

He himself has been tempted

But he follows the path of our lord and savior

He does not wander, for he is not Cain

He shepherds his sons

He’s the man who’s kept me sane

I hope when death is tapped to take him, he won’t bother

Because he’s god’s gift to me

My inspiration, he is my father
