Ablaze

Our love used to be powerful

It was a fire that would never go out

The flames licking around us everytime we touched

My insides ignited whenever we were together

My spirits instantly lifted

I was happy, like a child on Christmas morning

Every day a new spark formed

Kindling the fire that was our love

Then it happened

The night that would change everything

I wish I had found you cheating

Instead, I found you laying there

Motionless

Your chest no longer had the calming up and down motion, I had fallen asleep on so many times before

I cried out, tears streaming down my face

I grabbed your cold hand and squeezed

The fire inside me was roaring but yours had become ash

Then the sirens

Red and blue lights blurred my vision as I was separated from you

I couldn't remember much after that

Now here I am years later

My fire still burning bright for you

I light a small candle in front of the granite stone that bears your name

I begin to cry as the cold winter air sweeps around me

I feel the flames of old begin around my feet and begin to crawl up my body

I smile, knowing that it's you

Our love still burns bright as ever

I only wish you could be down here with me
