Absence Induced Anesthetic
It’s ironic that the one I cannot live without, is the one that couldn’t live without me,
But in a world where I exist without you is but a hellish, fiery dream.
It’s not so easy to express that my love for you runs deeper than it may seem.
Imagine the depth the roots of trees stretch to, imagine the depth of the trenches in the sea.
All that you feel, I can feel too, my days here with you will always be too few.
We have been through so much together in such a short while,
Your heartbeat was the first I ever anticipated and the first thing you heard was mine,
Long nights, your exponential growth, and the inevitable stretch of my skin dreading each new line,
But the pain was forever worth it after holding you in my arms, and after I saw that smile.
All that you feel, I can feel too. And if there’s no you, it better be long after my life is through.
I wake every morning with the intention of holding you tight.
I’ll shed every atom of affection that’s in my being just so that you will know
That you are the core of my existence, I gave you a piece of mine and now I live to see you grow.
Living any amount of days without you would be like a perpetual walk through a starless night.
All that you feel, I can feel too. So how could I feel anything if there is no you?
