Absent Father
Growing up all I wanted was a father around
Searching for something, that I never found
These are the feelings that I’ve always hid
There are so many things you never took time and did
You could have helped lead me in the right direction
You could have showed me a little love and affection
You could have showed me the attention; a girl should get from her dad
You could have helped discipline me when I was being bad
You could have showed me how to ride my bike
Or showed me the way to be treated right
Can you believe it, it’s been seventeen years
Believe it or not, I’ve shed countless tears
It’s sad to say Mom did it all alone
Look at me Daddy, I’m almost grown
I can sit here and talk about how hard it’s been for me
Or sit back and pity you for what you did not get to see
Although this might come as a shock to everyone
So far, I am proud of what I have become
And one day, deep down, you’ll have to admit
That you had absolutely nothing to do with it.
