Abstract Thoughts

I am mere  matter, formed by some genetic code from my fathers pallet

A copy of my long forgotten fore fathers chromosomes and genes

Some sort of energy attached to all things in endless space and time

Molecules that bind me into an independent creative thinking mind

I search for the connection I have to the universal intelligence of life

Seeking an understanding of purpose, hoping someday to find a truth

Restrained by universal laws to keep me from straying beyond its bounds

I surge into the unknown future with only a hope of some immortality

Saving memories of successes and failures as if one day they will count

A quest I know will not end until the universe transforms me back to dust

Yet knowing this, I continue to search for something that eludes me

An illusion that I chase in dreams as I feel its presence around me

A perception where I bend reality into my perceived future of grandeur

Only to conclude that the quest is fruitless unless I transform myself first

To have the knowledge that what I do, what I write and what I say

Will in some small way change the world and bring happiness to others

I am but matter and the imprint I leave behind will be my only reward
