Abuse
Keep my composure together like plaster,
You always had an answer,
Your words eat away at me like cancer,
And you are the tumor,
Whenever I choke up,
You laugh like the joke’s up,
You are not so tough,
I will call you out on your bluff,
Cannot wait to see you in cuffs,
Never understood veiled threats and what they entail,
Until I hid the struggle under a chipped fingernail,
As my waxen skin grows ever more pale,
Along with the bruises,
You could always find intangible excuses,
Thanks to you I have made myself reclusive,
I used to think this punishment was exclusive,
To myself,
And asked God why I have been given these cards I have been dealt,
A temper as ugly as a welt,
I should have long ago squashed this pimple,
If only unrelenting courage were so simple,
My confidence you ripped out like weeds,
For an advocate was growing and you planted the seeds,
For a challenge to your authority is what it impedes,
Leave me with scars,
As you leave nightly for bars,
And when you return find my resolve concrete,
Too long I had to keep this secret,
The barrage of animosity you so willingly secrete,
Has brought on this internal anguish and turmoil, making me weak,
Which I am sure was with no extraordinary fleet,
Turn around and find yourself facing the Spanish Armada,
This relationship is what you have chosen to soil,
And soon enough my blood pressure will boil,
Tension will once again escalate,
Then and only then will I make my final escape,
How could anyone on this barren earth possibly relate?
