Accept
Scars are all that you can see
The imperfections of what I can't be
My outward appearances create your views
Of me, leading to all sorts of abuse
Because I'm not the same?
Because you think I'm to blame, For my differences from you?
But that's the choice that you choose
You don't see my potential
All that I could be
You just see what you want
Or what you think it all means
You don't get that I have dreams
Dreams that exceed imagination
Or plans for the future
Where I will help build a nation
It will be one that loves without discrimination
One that accepts without condemnation
But you can't see my heart or my heart's desires
Because you only see my appearance and the sweat I perspire
But I assure you that if you looked hard enough, possibly
What you will actually be seeing is just me
The me that hopes
The me that lives
The me that loves
The me that gives
The me that cries
The me that cares
The me that needs
The me that dares
Look past what I seem to be outside
Put all judging thoughts aside
And see what hides underneath
The me that I want you to see
