For Acceptance
In this erratic, hectic slice of existence
the only thing I need,
is understanding and peace.
Life is a minefield already,
need we add more fuel to the flames?
When I was young my mind could
never imagine such horrible things
as are common place on the news today:
race-based violence on the streets,
homophobes and transphobes invading
and destroying these innocents in their rage.
I fear for the lives of those I hold dear
and in this day and age I will not accept that
they should live in terror or hide who they be
from the world at large.
For me, the only thing I need,
all I'll ever need is for people
to speak for those whose voices
are drowned out,
Speak for peace, for love....
For acceptance.
