The Achievement Gap

Here in a place where the gap of achievement stretches across horizons and falls into ever continuous depths that neither hell’s or heaven’s legions can cross

This is where I remain.

On the edge of cliff with the lost stares on dark faces like mine,

Like cattle we wander aimlessly at the edge.

Never fully prepared to take the first step

This is the achievement gap that has lured in the curious eyed gazes of thousands,

All prepared to don their capes and spirit us in droves across the chasm.

Yet, still, here I am.

Waiting on the edge.

Despite their declarations of war on this gap,

There is no marble bridge awaiting my first step,

There is no wooden planked bridge whose frayed ropes lead me onward.

I am cattle.

With my flank branded honoring the emblem of my high school.

I am cattle.

And despite my wishes my hooves stand firm.
