Achieving Peace
We strive for peace, but we don't attempt to reach it.
Even though we know that God Almighty beseeched it.
Over and over He said be kind to your brethren,
But we're dividing ourselves up into Hufflepuff and Slytherin.
A Harry Potter reference might seem a little soft,
But that's what keeps this whole heavy topic aloft.
Because if I gave you the cold, hard facts you'd be begging on your knees,
For compensation for your sins and forgiveness for your deeds.
Killing for peace doesn't make you a martyr,
Just as saying you learned doesn't make you any smarter.
Because learning is pointless without understanding,
Like a child and a toy who can become so demanding.
They refuse to listen and continue with persistence,
As if an iPod and a Playstation are the only things in existence.
A single train of thought on a one-track mind,
Moving straight in their beliefs without bothering to look behind -
To see if there's someone behind them with a better solution,
To choose a puzzle or a board game instead of mind pollution.
Take it from me, the girl who can't complain,
We need to achieve peace within ourselves in order to stay sane.
Because that's the first step - fighting for what you believe in,
But understanding others' opinions and allowing them to seep in.
'Cuz judgment can be evil, and society can be cruel.
But patience is key, and tolerance the golden rule.
So we should hold hands and find the peace we've begun to lose,
Forget our differences and appreciate the privileges we've abused.
We owe Him that much, for creating us as his perfect yet flawed beings.
To start listening instead of hearing and replace looking with seeing.
