ACL Chronicles

Torn She didn’t dare to think it Even imagining it tore her apart So she pushed on Until she ran into the brick wall Truth. She… … I Never believed in karma as much as I did then Reality’s slap in the face. It’s hard for people to understand It wasn’t life threatening But it threatened my life The way I lived Day to day For 8 months My ACL stole from me Time that I still want back A perpetual I.O.U. My mom says I shouldn’t think like that Since I’m better – she’s right. But bitterness feeds on frustration And it’s hard sometimes. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger So right now, I am feeling strong A warrior Scarred and strong. Then I remember when You used to cheer me on As I struggled To crutch around the house The day after surgery A lap You said I was brave Even though I know you cried Because you could tell it hurt But you never told me that I knew. Now You haven’t changed I have I am tired Dead Bone Tired Of this stupid brace Of this stupid knee And that stupid scar staring me in the face every time I look down Because I was too dumb to take care of it like I should And I get frustrated You say you understand But I am not so sure We fight. A lot. And I am pretty sure it’s my fault Because I am through listening to the doctor And dragging a pound of metal around on my knee But when I get angry You are always there Shutting down Saying you are tired of being my punching bag Tired of taking hits When you are just there to help I don’t feel guilty anymore Maybe I’m being a brat But maybe you are being self righteous Assuming you are taking more beatings from me Than I have From myself. I’m not perfect But my apologies have to be?
