Acquiescence

The call was loud

Compelling in its courtship

Persuasive in its pursuit

I couldn’t help but follow suit.

So this is the sound of acquiescence

Simple in its essence

Syllables with lessons

Vowels that paint a picture

Of all that adolescents

Endure just to conform

To standards that are at best bizarre

And do us nothing but harm

Now I don’t mean to alarm

Or even fucking scar

You anymore than you already are

But this is a call to arms

To fight for who you are.
